Remember pleated khakis? Before my first day at my new job at GE, I went to a mall and bought pleated khakis because it’s what I thought I needed to wear to get promoted. I worked hard to create a polished persona. I tried to look “professional.”I was worried about being found out — just a farm boy from Pennsylvania. So in my first few roles, I was that suit guy.I even wore a Blackberry on my belt loop, eww! But here’s the thing.I don’t value being super polished at work.I’m drawn to people with flaws. I’m not the 9000 IQ guy with all the right answers.I’m a grinder. I love experimenting. I realized that juggling my polished persona and my authentic self was exhausting. It clicked when I transitioned to a startup.I felt like I was at home.In small companies, all that matters is what you deliver.Nobody cares about your polished persona. You can be yourself and get promoted. (if you move the needle) Want to share stories about your college DJ days on LinkedIn?Go right ahead.(In fact, I already have.)Because in a sea of polished personas, being genuine at work is a breath of fresh air.Your authentic self might wear a tailored suit.Or have a perfect manicure.Or DJ on the weekend.Or sport a man-bun.Or a sleeve tattoo. And that’s great!Whatever it is just be yourself. It’s so much easier.

"Keeping the Bastards Honest". One can tell who people are at their core by the priorities they set! Controlled Greed/ Capitalism is good! Rampant Greed must be controlled! All that is reasonable to you and your family!

So people with largest discretionary spending budgets the people feeding demand&therefore inflation get more money those Under Employed Australian Taxpayers, no fault of their own, are kept below the Poverty Line??Albanese Labor Party continues to embrace ultra rightwing morrison coalition's tropes of the lowest income earners are were they are financial because they spend everything they get were highest income earners save what they get???And the other trope of can't raise all to Poverty Line as they won't get a job? Ignoring that getting Gov assist removed is the biggest incentive to become independent of government by getting a job!Appalling people at their core this mob!Self interest and getting re elected first and foremost priority at centre of every decision!

Last week I celebrated my 10-year wedding anniversary, which is amazing in its own right, but also statistically speaking, we should have never made it this far. Here are a few stats based on who we were at the time.🌎 State with the second most divorces: Oklahoma (where I’m from)🪖 Career with the highest divorce rate: Military (our career at the time)📊 Age bracket with the highest divorce rate in 2017: 15-24 (I think you get the point)After we decided to go for it, one of our tech sergeants told us that 1 and 9 Airman make it past the first 6 months. 🙃Now before I end up on LinkedIn lunatics, let me tie this back to business.Having statistics and data metrics to rely on in order make well informed decisions, can be a truly game changing competitive advantage. In fact, this is what my whole career is predicated on, so please keep up the good work! 🙏And while having the data points and KPIs and OKRs can be power tools in your business, they’re just that tools. There’s still a human decision maker at the end of the data that must make an informed choice information they have. At least until our AI overlords reset the simulation 😅In the Air Force there was a common saying, trust but verify. So, trust your analysts are providing you with the best information, but when able, verify with your customers. You never know when a long shot will turn out to be one of best the choices of your life.
